Boo To You!

Boo to you and you, happy halloween!! If you are attending Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, that song will be playing on repeat in your head for the next few days! I went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party September 9 at Magic Kingdom and it was amazing!!! Ride overlays, trick or treating, Boo to You parade, Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Fireworks, Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular stage show, and party specific treats and merchandise- this party is a can’t miss!

I’ll start out with a few logistics and then get into all the fun we had! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is a separate ticketed event held on select nights August 12-October 31, 2022 from 7pm-midnight at Magic Kingdom. Sadly at the time of this blog post the event is sold out, but prepare for next year!

You do not have to have a day ticket or park reservation for Magic Kingdom to attend. Party goers can enter Magic Kingdom at 4pm and will immediately receive a wristband and then be sent to pick up their commemorative trick or treat bag. I highly recommend arriving 15-30 minutes early to the front gates of Magic Kingdom, don’t forget you’ll park at the Ticket and Transportation Center and then either take the ferry or monorail over to Magic Kingdom. The party officially begins at 7pm, but from 4pm-7pm you can ride attractions and grab a bite to eat!

At 7pm they will officially announce that Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party has officially started! There are 4 ride overlays that are very fun- Space Mountain (pitch black and spooky music), Pirates of the Caribbean (live pirates in the line and on the ride), Mad Tea Party teacups (spooky music), and Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor (Halloween jokes). Most attractions are open during the party and have much shorter wait times than a typical day. There are also specialty foods you can get during a regular park day and some only available at the party! We tried the Spellbinding Fried Pie, with buffalo chicken and blue cheese inside, the Sweet Almond Corn Cake, it looks like corn on the cob but tastes like vanilla sponge cake, and the Sweet Corn and Vanilla soft serve cone- they were delicious and I highly recommend!

There are four major entertainment offerings- The Boo to You Parade, Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Fireworks, and the Hocus Pocus Villains Spelltacular stage show, and The Cadaver Dans. The Boo to You Parade begins in Frontierland near Splash Mountain and ends on Main Street near the Fire Station. There are two showtimes for the parade, 9:15pm and 11:15pm. Tip: the second parade is much less crowded. Also there are dance parties prior to the parade- in Frontierland you can dance with The Country Bears and on Main Street you can dance with Max Goof dressed as Powerline from A Goofy Movie! There is only one showtime for Mickey’s Not So Spooky Spectacular Fireworks and that is at 10:15pm. Jack Skellington opens the show so a spot close to the stage is a must if you’re a big fan! Another fun show is the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular showing at 8:35pm, 10:45pm, and midnight in August and September; 7:40pm, 8:35pm, 10:45pm, and midnight in October. The Cadaver Dans sing in Frontierland near the Frontierland Shootin Arcade. Their showtimes are 7pm, 7:45pm, 8:30pm, 9:50pm, and 10:30pm.

There are also two dance parties that are going on throughout the party! You can dance with Mike and Sully from Monsters Inc in Tomorrowland at the Monstrous Scream-O-Ween Ball, dance with Disney Junior characters in Storybook Circus at the Disney Junior Jam, and see the cast from Zombies in Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe at the Zom-Beatz Bash!

Can’t forget trick or treating around the park! There will be large blow up signs to signify there are treats being given out at that location. If you need allergy friendly treats, let a cast member know when you pick up your bag at the beginning of the night because they will give you a teal bag. You’ll still go to the same treat locations, they will just give you a teal token. Then you will go to the Allergy-Friendly Centers for your treats!

Another special offering at the party is special character meet and greets! Jack and Sally were my favorite to meet because they both spoke and were so fun to talk to. I wore my Nightmare Before Christmas dress which was a fun topic of conversation with them! They meet in the Town Square Theatre, Mickey Mouse dressed up as a vampire also meets here! They are very popular so I recommend either getting in line as soon as you enter at 4pm (cast members will check for wristbands to enter this queue) or waiting until the end of the party. I got in line at 11pm to meet Jack and Sally, waited 1 hour, but they stopped letting anyone join the line around 11:30pm so keep that in mind if you wanted to catch the second Boo to You parade or later showings of the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular. Pooh and friends meet by the Winnie the Pooh attraction in their Halloween costumes beginning at 6:30 and are very popular. I waited in line about an hour to meet Pooh and Friends around 7:30. Pooh and Friends meet outside so they do take breaks, they took 2 breaks while we waited in line. Stitch dressed as Elvis meets at The Carousel of Progress attraction. I also met Alice and The Mad Hatter by Mad Tea Party and we talked about our favorite kind of tea- positiviTEA was Alice’s favorite! There are many other characters to meet around the park such as Jack Sparrow, Genie and Aladdin, Goofy, Minnie Mouse Daisy and Donald dressed in Halloween costumes meet together, the Queen of Hearts, and many others. Pick up a map at the beginning and it will show you the location of where to meet characters (characters do switch out so the map doesn’t list exactly which character meets at each location).

There is party specific merchandise that will not be available to purchase until 7pm. The line to get into the store can get long especially at the very beginning and very end of the party so try to look at merchandise in The Emporium on Main Street in the middle of the party. There are shirts, hats, Christmas ornaments, Minnie Mouse ears, home decor, Halloween decor, etc available only to party goers!

My best tip for the party is to have a plan! Prioritize what is most important to you and other members of your party and focus on those early. If you do not accomplish everything you wanted to, don’t worry we didn’t either and that is to be expected! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is absolutely worth the cost and is such a unique way to experience Magic Kingdom! Don’t forget to pick up your commemorative Halloween Castle poster on your way out! Tag us in your photos if you go and we hope you have a great time!

Boo to you!
