GO and go now, right now. Stop what you are doing and go.
3:00 in the afternoon on a weekday is apparently the best time to hit up The Glass Onion in Charleston, SC. because that’s when we went and we were literally the only people in the place. Now.. normally that would have scared me away because that means they aren’t turning over their food fast enough, but I figured since it was featured in Diners Drive Ins and Dives it had to be busy normally we just caught it funny. So in we went!
Y’all. Stop it right now. Made to order. Fresh. Seasoned properly, from scratch, delicious.
I’ve read reviews with people complaining about the size of the menu, it wasn’t the smallest menu I have ever seen but it wasn’t large, I don’t mind a small menu, pick what you do and do it well, thats what I care about.
To Start off with we tried the Fried Green Tomatoes with Pimento Cheese, and I have to say the pimento cheese wasn’t as good as mine 😉 but it was delicious with those tomatoes! It was Fat Tuesday so they were offering Gumbo and they did it RIGHT. I could tell just by the color this guy knew how to do his roux and it was delicious!
The Okra Fritter? Shut up. So good!
For entrees my husband had the Fried catfish and swore he never had catfish so good since his dad made it when he was a kid. I had the Pork Belly and it was divine. I have to say the only thing that didn’t completely and utterly thrill me was the red rice. It was good, but not as amazing as everything else.
Already on cloud 9 from our meals, we decided to order the chocolate peanut butter pie, now normally I’m not a dessert person much less a pie person but I literally asked to speak to the chef so I could smack her. I wanted to smack her it was that damn good. #takemymoney
The menu changes daily depending on what the chef gets locally sourced but I’m here to tell you it’s all delicious! Get it all and lick the plate! You won’t be sorry!
